If I use the hammer, then it means that someone else can't use the hammer. Things like air are not property because they are not scarce (meaning if I breathe, it's not as if someone can't breathe, the supply of air won't foreseeably run out). Ideas, songs, and things of that nature are not property. When I rip a song, the other person still has the song. Intellectual property, then, has no alignment with libertarianism. As for the consequential argument, see this book.

http://mises.org/books/against.pdfTonyFernandezhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07577417779317914721noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5383512304639632735.post-60267729339719592842010-07-14T11:27:42.769-07:002010-07-14T11:27:42.769-07:00Dear Anonymous, libertarians are not anarchist. Libertarians believe that the government's primary, if not only role is to protect (by force if neccessary) the rights of citizens, including their property rights. So copywright laws align with libertarism.Thomas Jeffersonnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5383512304639632735.post-57864647073325031962010-06-11T15:21:51.277-07:002010-06-11T15:21:51.277-07:00Do Libertarians believe copyright laws should exis...Do Libertarians believe copyright laws should exist? I would think that anyone who wants less government would want fewer laws. I wonder if there is a place where the property rights movement (somewhat Libertarian) and copyright law intersect. Maybe nowhere. Late Friday afternoon musings...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
